Prof. Ing. Michal Holčapek, Ph.D., Ing. Ondřej Peterka, Ph.D. and Ing. Zdeněk Jirsa were awarded for the transfer of a patent for the detection of pancreatic cancer

The later the cancer is detected, the lower the chance of cure. Pancreatic cancer is also among the ultimate killers. It is rarely revealed in time. If the spin-off company Lipidica, a.s. succeeds in a clinical trial with its test, it could mean a fundamental turning point in diagnostics and the emergence of a new innovative method that may also be used in other types of tumors.

Professor Michal Holčapek is the father of the idea of how to recognize pancreatic cancer from the blood by analyzing the composition of lipids. With his research team, he took the picture to a patent. Their home University of Pardubice, joined forces with Fons JK Group, and together they created the spin-off company Lipidica. Its goal is a successful clinical study and the subsequent introduction of pancreatic cancer detection from a blood test into broader practice through a screening method.
