Zdeněk Hostomský studied biochemistry at the Faculty of Science and history of philosophy at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University. Subsequently, he worked at the Institute of Molecular Genetics, where he dealt with genetic engineering and where he also received his CSc degree in 1983. In 1985, he went to the USA for a one-year internship at Caltech, then emigrated to the USA in 1987 and worked for Agouron Pharmaceuticals, Warner Lambert and finally Pfizer, where he became the Executive Director of the Cancer Research Centre in 2000. From 2012 to 2022 he served as Director of the Cancer Research Institute. After his tenure, he was awarded the position of Honorary Chair.
