Libor Barto

 Libor Barto

He is currently based at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague, where he serves as a Professor in the Department of Algebra. He graduated from the faculty in 2003 and obtained his PhD there three years later. Following his doctorate, he held a position at McMaster University in Canada from 2010 to 2012.

His research focuses on universal algebra and computational complexity theory. He is the author or co-author of dozens of research papers published in leading international journals.He has been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant (CoCoSym – Symmetry in Computational Complexity, 2018–2023) and, together with Manuel Bodirsky and Michael Pinsker, an ERC Synergy Grant (POCOCOP – Polynomial-time Computation: Opening the Black Boxes in Constraint Problems, 2023–2029).

He is a recipient of the Neuron Award for Young Scientists (2012) and the Czech Science Foundation Chairman’s Award (2018). Beyond mathematics, he has an interest in music and played the flute in the band Votchi. He has three children.
