After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague, he worked as a junior doctor in Nymburk. Since 1974, he has worked at IKEM, Cardiovascular Surgery Department. From 1983 to 1984, worked as a heart surgeon in New Orleans, USA. From 1990 to 1991, worked in heart surgery in Odense, Denmark. Since 1991, Head of the IKEM Cardiovascular Surgery Department, since 1995, Head of the IKEM Cardiocenter.
Member of a number of Czech and international scientific associations. Author of many papers, extensive teaching activities in graduate and postgraduate programs.
Married, two sons and six grandchildren. He enjoys sports, theater and spending time with his family.
