Ivo Starý
Guarantor of the Scientific council in the field of Chemistry
"Science, as a universal category of human activities, crosses all kinds of boundaries and in the long run influences our lives in a fundamental way. That's why we need excellent captainesses and captains on the infinite and sometimes stormy ocean of science, whom I can support with my work for the Neuron Foundation."
Ivo Starý is the head of the research group at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry CAS in the position of "distinguished chair". He is an organic chemist, but his area of research interest goes beyond this field. The group's research focuses on the design and preparation of non-trivial π-electron systems and the study of their properties using experimental and theoretical methods. The long-term goal is the design of smart molecular devices.
He graduated from Charles University, is a member of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic and a recipient of the Rudolf Lukeš Prize. He has been teaching reaction mechanisms at Charles University. He has published >110 original scientific papers in international journals, 6 book chapters, and is co-editor of a book on helicenes. Since 2023 he is a guarantor of the Scientific council in the field of chemistry of the Neuron Foundation.
