Lenka Zdeborová
"I look for bridges between scientific disciplines."
In 2021 Lenka Zdeborová received the Neuron Award for Young Promising Scientists in physics. The award comes with a personal financial prize of CZK 500,000, which she donated through NF Neuron to the further education of children — specifically to support Fyziklání, run by the FYKOS association, with which her own scientific beginnings are connected.
Lenka Zdeborová's work lies at the boundary of physics, computer science and mathematics. She applies the methods of physics to problems in computer science, combinatorics and machine learning. Her aim is to understand which complex scientific problems can be solved with computers and neural networks.
After studying at Charles University and the Université Paris-Sud she worked as a researcher in French scientific laboratories, and her work led to the development and analysis of a number of algorithmic methods. Since 2020 she has been professor of physics and computer science at EPFL in Lausanne. Lenka Zdeborová has thousands of citations in academic journals and has been honoured with the Irène Joliot-Curie prize and an ERC Starting Grant, among others.
