 Alexander Kupčo

Alexander Kupčo is an experimental particle physicist currently based at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, where he heads the Section of Experimental Particle Physics. He also teaches at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague. He graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics in 1997 and obtained his Ph.D. there in 2003. He was appointed Associate Professor ("Docent") in subnuclear physics at Charles University in 2015 and became Full Professor in particle and nuclear physics in December 2025.

Since 2006, he has been affiliated with the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and has also completed international research stays at CEA Saclay (2003–2004). His research focuses on strong and electroweak interactions, accelerator-based experiments, and the study of the structure of matter.

He has contributed to measurements in the DØ Experiment at Fermilab as well as in ATLAS Experiment. As the principal investigator of the Czech CERN-CZ infrastructure, he is among the leading figures representing Czech participation at CERN in Geneva.

He is involved in a number of major projects and collaborations; consequently, his name appears on approximately 1,800 publications in scholarly databases and on hundreds of research papers in particle physics.
